"Death...The Brutal Way", the new video from the reformed Dutch death metal outfit AsphyxMartin van Drunen (vocals), Wannes Gubbels (bass/vocals), Paul Baayens (guitar) and Bob Bagchus (drums) — can be viewed below. The clip was helmed by Oliver Barth.

"Death...The Brutal Way" is the title track of Asphyx's comeback album, which was released in Europe on June 22 via Century Media Records.

Asphyx has scheduled a CD-release club show for "Death...The Brutal Way" on Saturday, July 4 at Turock in Essen, Germany. Support for this special event will come from Desaster and Necros Christos.

The group previously said about the new CD: "Cliche or not, this truly IS the heaviest Asphyx album of all. This could easily be THE real follow-up to 'The Last One On Earth'. The songs are as always catchy, brutal and straight-forward. The slower parts have become even more slow and heavier than ever before. This is doom/death metal in the real Asphyxspirit. This will grind everything to its grave! This is death metal as we, Asphyx, like it best. Old school to the bone!"

Arkaea - Locust - Video

"Locust", the debut video from Arkaea — the new band featuring Fear Factory members Christian Olde Wolbers (guitar) and Raymond Herrera (drums) — can be viewed below. (Note: Video stream may not be available to some non-U.S. residents.) The clip, which received its "Headbangers Ball" premiere this Saturday night (June 20-21) at 2:00 a.m. on MTV2, was filmed in downtown Los Angeles.

Commented Herrera: "'Locust' was our first pick for a music video and as the opening track for the album because it really sets the tempo of the album and is a strong track that shows a great introduction to what Arkaea is all about. We knew that we needed to come out swinging and 'Locust' definitely offers that punch."

Arkaea
will release its debut album, "Years In The Darkness", in Europe through Century Media Records on the following dates:

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy: Friday, July 17
Spain, Portugal: Tuesday, July 21
Sweden, Finland, Hungary: Wednesday, July 22
U.K., France, Greece, Denmark, Norway, Rest Of Europe: Monday, July 20

The CD was produced by Christian Olde Wolbers and Arkaea and mixed by legendary producer Terry Date, best known for his work with the Deftones, Slipknot, White Zombie, Soundgarden and Pantera. The album was mastered at Sterling Sound by Ted Jensen, who mastered Fear Factory's gold-certified 1998 release "Obsolete".

Singer Jon Howard (Threat Signal) describes Arkaea's familiar-yet-innovative sound: "Chris and Ray have been writing together for many years, so the music does have a lot of Fear Factory elements. However, we've been open to trying different things. It basically fuses what I have been doing vocally in Threat Signal with driving Fear Factory rhythms, along with some of our own experimentation. The idea behind the project is to be heavy, but maintain melody at the same time. We have crazy riffs, but some grooving choruses as well. It's a great mix."

Howard has been a part of the Fear Factory family ever since Wolbers served as producer for Threat Signal's debut, "Under Reprisal". Given that connection, the chemistry was there the instant the band started jamming. Howard has managed to push himself as a singer with the help of the veteran musicians. "I always try to do new things and experiment with my voice, and this project has been challenging," said Howard. "It always takes a little time to get comfortable working with new people and a new style of music, but I got over that really fast with Christian and Raymond, and I feel very comfortable where we're going right now."

"Years In The Darkness" track listing:

01. Locust
02. Beneath the Shades of Grey
03. Years in the Darkness
04. Gone Tomorrow
05. Awakening
06. Black Ocean
07. Break the Silence
08. Lucid Dreams
09. My Redemption
10. War Within
11. The World As One
12. Rise Today
13. Away From the Sun

Paradise Lost New Ablum: Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us

British gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost have set "Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us" as the title of their new album, due in September via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded at Fascination Street Studios in Orebro, Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. The highly anticipated follow-up to 2007's "In Requiem" will feature around 10 tracks, including "First Light", "As Horizons End", "Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us", "Frailty" and "My Last Regret".

Commetned vocalist Nick Holmes: "The thoughts behind the title 'Faith Divides Us, Death Unites Us' are very much self-explanatory. There is so much division in the world caused by obstructing religious belief. We are all made of the same flesh and bone. What makes one religion better than the other, and would any true god allow his creation to destroy itself? The vast number of different so-called faiths around the globe just helps to strengthen my complete denial of any god and force the belief that religion is nothing more than a man-made, cash-induced fabrication to exploit a human being's natural fear of death."

Regarding the band's decision to work with Bogren this time around, Holmes previously stated, "We are very happy with producer Rhys Fulber's work on the last album ['In Requiem'], but after working on three albums together, we decided it was time to go for a different approach. After hearing the work he did with our 'Anatomy Of Melancholy' live DVD, we decided that Jens Bogren was the man for the job."

He continued, "Our approach this time has leaned even more towards the heavier side of things, even more so than the last. It is vital not to lose touch with our musical trip over the last 20 years. Our music may have had different facelifts, but it has always been 'dark' and the new album will be no exception. Musically and lyrically.

"Writing a new album is always exciting; we never get bored of writing music, and for me, it is the best part of being in a band. Each album is like a challenge to better ourselves, or at the very least, do something that's different to everyone else. We strive to make the ultimate modern gothic metal album, and for me that has nothing to do with the common trend of 'romance' and 'roses.' It should be music to be murdered by."

Paradise Lost recently enlisted Adrian Erlandsson (Cradle of Filth, The Haunted, At The Gates) as the band's new full-time drummer.

Commented guitarist Greg Mackintosh: "Adrian has been a friend and acquaintance for some time. After calling me to see if the drumming position was still vacant, we quickly arranged for an audition right before entering the studio to record our new album. We knew immediately that he was the man for the job. Playing the songs with him felt very natural. He is the same age as us and from a similar musical background. Unfortunately, it was too short notice to play on the new album, but everything we do from now on will have Adrian involved."

Added Adrian Erlandsson: "Paradise Lost has been one of my favourite bands since I first heard them in 1990. When my fellow Brujeria member Jeff Walker told me that PL were looking for a drummer, I got in contact with Greg straight away. After a few chats and e-mails, I was on my way to the audition. I had learnt 10 songs out of their last setlist, but after playing only four songs, Nick [Holmes, vocals] said, 'The job is yours if you want it.' Great success!! I look forward to growing even older with the lads and rocking hard with them live!!"

DEMO: Korrigan - Korrigan (2008)

Korrigan were formed in 2005 by a few university students in Greece. A couple of months ago they entered the atmospheric death/back music area with the release of their first, self titled demo. However the question is if they can make a name of themselves especially when a lot of bands, especially from Greece, are out there.

Korrigan are influenced by the early days of bands like Anathema, Theatre of Tragedy, Opeth and Rotting Christ (especially their guitar riffs).

This demo consist of 4 songs. After a short psychedelic intro (Seeking a healing hand…) the demo starts with …tonight and from the first tunes you can understand their abilities and possibilities. Very good combination of brutal and ethereal female vocals and a clever orchestration. Clean and brutal vocals are used nicely while the female vocals appear in the right moments. Suicidal Urges is where the band really shines. This song is in my head the last 10 days! Clever refrain, great atmosphere, amazing work from the keyboards plus very good lyrics. Korrigan’s demo ends with Silence, which is in a heavier style mainly due to its political theme.

Unfortunately the production is really bad and as a result there are times when drums and keyboards cannot be heard. In addition, Vaggelis’ and Zoe’s voices maybe are not a match to those of Within Temptation or Theatre of Tragedy. And surely their sound and ideas sometimes are crude and rough. However my opinion is that in metal being perfect is not what it counts. What it counts is the mood and feelings that you can create with your music. And Korrigan create a wonderful atmosphere and, even if they play a different kind of music, I get from them the same feeling as in Strange In Stereo from …In The Woods.

Surely they deserve your attention. Check them out in their official MySpace page.

Also Korrigan offer their demo for free here.
