Last US Tour For Therion

By Elric on 10:31 AM

Mainman Christofer Johnsson of the Swedish metallers Therion has issued the following update:

"Philadelphia show is now cancelled. There was this known issue with the promoter announcing the wrong date. It was too late to correct the date to the same venue, but we tried to book it into some other place instead. This didn't work, so today we received the final decision that Philadelphia is off the schedule. New York City and Springfield is in the near, so it shouldn't be a big deal for you guys in this area to catch up with any (or why not both?) shows over there.

"The Detroit show was never any regular Therion show. Instead of having a day off we would be playing before Type O Negative, before their opening acts, and play some 30 min set or what ever. Due to what ever reasons, this won't be happening now and we'll have a day off and drive to the Niagara Falls instead.

"The tour we did in 2005 was not very successful due to us being overbooked with shows in areas where we don't do too well (which I pointed out before the tour, but I was talked into doing it) plus the fact that our tour bus broke down and we lost a bunch of shows.

"This time we tried a new concept (with a more professional American booking agent) and do only shows in areas where we do OK or good. We've had fun shows so far, but economically it isn't working this way either, the initial costs (work permit, visa, flights etc) are spread over too few shows and the budget was on the limit already when being planned. As unexpected costs always tend to pop out, the tour will now have a bit of minus and thus also this concept turned out to be not working. This means that unless the tooth fairy decides to sponsor us or some festival decides to pay us sick amounts of money to bring us over and carry the massive costs, this will likely be your last opportunity to see the band perform in USA/Canada. This decision is also pushed by the fact that we are becoming more and more of a show band and we don't play many venues over here in a size where the European production would fit. Starting from the next World Tour 2010, we want to standardize things and have an identical stage set up no matter where we play in the world."

Ron Jarzombek (Guitarist of Watchtower, Spastic Ink, Blotted Science) has issued the following update:

"The latest news is:

1. Blotted Science - 'The Machinations of Dementia' has been out for roughtly a month now. The CD is available directly through this website as well as various online distributors (see www.myspace.com/blottedscience for a hyperlinked list of vendors) and also just got added to iTunes (along with both Spastic Ink discs and 'Solitarily Thinking of Theoretical Confinement') and other digital providers. Many thanks to everyone who has picked up a copy and all the VERY positive feedback we've received on it so far. It's great to know that all the hard work that we put into writing and recording this album is being appreciated.

2. Several months ago, I did a bit of touring with Marty Friedman in Europe and Japan. The shows were recorded and filmed and have since been released by Avex Entertainment in Japan as "Exhibit A: Live in Europe" (CD) and "Exhibit B: Live in Japan" (DVD), respectively. I'd like to thank Marty for asking me again to help him get his solo material out there as well as Chris Catero and Jeremy Colson for kicking ass and the good times on the road. I hope we can do it again sometime! Special thanks go out to the folks at Avex and everyone involved for coordinating everything and putting on a first class operation in Japan.

3. I'm now getting back to my instructional guitar DVD, and it's looking like it will be on 2 separate DVDs. After releasing Blotted Science, I realized that there were too many examples and concepts that fit together and there needed to be a two-part release to cover everything. I'm looking at doing two 2-hour videos with playing examples, theoretical concepts, and animated explanations, featuring songs and excerpts from both Spastic Ink CDs, both my solo albums, and the just released 'The Machinations of Dementia' CD.

Thanks!
Ron "

The band extend their deepest regret to the fans in Korea and New Zealand that were looking forward to these shows, Machine Head was also looking forward to playing both shows, and they are extremely disappointed that they now cannot. At The Gates, the pioneers of swedish death metal (alongside Carcass) will reunite for some shows next summer (2008).
The following festivals are confirmed so far:

04-06 July Ruis Rock, Finland
31 July-02 Aug Wacken Open Air, DE
15-17 Aug Bloodstock, Derby, UK

Guitarist Anders comments on the reunion:

"Well, it felt like the timing was right for once. We have been talking about a possible reunion for years now, but this was the first time everything fell into place. For me personally, it feels like getting closure. The break-up over ten years ago was abrupt and left a bad vibe between us that took years to get over. We have a better relationship today and a more relaxed approach to who we are and what we do. The time is right to get together and play some shows. Try to catch us live in the summer 2008. It could be your last chance"!

Serj Tankian Latest Info

Serj Tankian, the visionary frontman for multi-platinum rock band System Of A Down, has set a date to release his debut solo album, entitled Elect The Dead, which will be released on Serjical Strike/Reprise Records on October 23rd.

Known for his work with hard-rock agitators SOAD, Tankian says he had no clue he was about to make a rock record when he began to record at his home studio in Los Angeles last summer. "I was writing more traditional type songs on my piano and acoustic guitar, with a classical, almost operatic flavor; and lo and behold, it ended up being a rock record. Funny what happens when you add distorted guitars and drums," he says. "There are political songs, funny songs, love songs, songs about painful experiences, vanity, and the environment. It has a deep melancholy that runs from the personal to the global, with a glimmer of hope in the solidarity of spirit."

Here are same video and audio links for you to check out. There are songs from the upcoming album, Elect the Dead.

Carcass Confirmed For Wacken 2008

According to Jeff Walker:

"Well, they said it would never happen. In fact I said it would never happen. Then I noticed no one pays attention to what I say anyway and I sounded like an idiot...

Summer 2008 will be the twentieth anniversary since the release of Carcass' first studio album. It will be fourteen years since we last played live. We've decided to exhume the old corpse next Summer at Wacken.

The timing is purely coincidental - it's been a long journey to get to this point where myself, Bill Steer and Mike Amott have enough common desire again to make it possible. We're finally conceding to the demand that seems to be at an all time high and doesn't appear to be going away any time soon. Any past reasons we may have had for not wanting to do it, or thinking it was impossible, have simply dissipated in the face of overwhelming interest in us performing THOSE riffs for a generation of believers who never had the opportunity back in the day. We could say we're doing it for 'the kids' - but fuck that ! We're doing it 'cos it will be fun again to play the classic Carcass tunes !! Of course it would seem inappropriate for us to contemplate to do this without Ken Owen, but I assure you he'll be there, and we'll push some sticks in his hands and make him play, plus we'll have a killer drummer to sit in and play HIS parts.

Myself Jeff Walker on bass and vocals, "the semi-legendary" Bill Steer and Mike Amott on lead guitar and Daniel Erlandsson, filling in for Ken on drums, look forwards to mutilating your hearing.

And if we don't do it ? Who else will overshadow the Led Zeppelin reunion ?

Ha !

Prepare to rot and roll."

Avenged Sevenfold - Almost Easy - Video

Avenged Sevenfold's music video for the band's new single, "Almost Easy", has been released and can be viewed below. The track comes off the group's new self-titled album, whcih comes out on October 30, almost exactly a year since the band first began the writing process for it.

Lead singer M. Shadows told The Pulse of Radio that the California group wanted to fade out of the public eye for a while before coming back with a brand new record. "I, for the record, will say that that's what normal bands should do," he explained. "People don't get any breathing room and they get, they have to listen to a band way too much, like they — from record to record, you don't get any break. When I was growing up, I always wanted a band to take a break and then I got really amped for their next record, and then, you know, they kind of went away for a while and then they'd come back, then you'd remember why you loved that band again. And so I think we did it the right way, but to some people nowadays it seems like it's like a long time."

Avenged Sevenfold's new album, its fourth, will follow up the band's 2005 breakthrough effort, "City of Evil".

The band will begin a club and theatre tour on October 29 in Los Angeles, with shows booked through November 25 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Avenged Sevenfold will perform on Spike TV's second annual Scream Awards, which will be taped on October 19 at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles and air on Tuesday, October 23.

Carcass May Reunite

By Elric on 7:25 AM 04 October 2007

Former Carcass guitarist Mike Amott (currently in Arch Enemy) has revealed that the legendary U.K. death metal band may reunite for a tour.

In an exclusive interview with Sweden's Close-Up magazine (web site), Amott said that he and guitarist/vocalist Bill Steer secretly met in Halmstad, Sweden last year to rehearse old Carcass material. A couple of months later, they were joined by vocalist/bassist Jeff Walker for another practice session. Arch Enemy's Daniel Erlandsson was handling the drum duties at these rehearsals.

"It sounded really good and it was a lot of fun," said Amott. "We rehearsed pretty much the entire 'Heartwork' album [1993]."

The original plan was for Carcass to play several festival shows this summer, but that fell through.

"I hope we can do some reunion shows at a later date," explained Amott. "It would be a lot of fun and I'd love to play the songs live again. Unfortunately, it can't happen until 18 months from now, at the earliest, because Arch Enemy has a totally full schedule. It's different for the other guys who don't work as actively on their music careers."

Have you discussed writing new songs?

"To write something new seems unnecessary. People still only want to hear the old stuff," said Amott.

After the "Heartwork" tour, Mike Amott left Carcass. The band then released the appropriately titled album "Swansong" (1996).

What did you think of "Swansong" when it came out?

"I wasn't a fan of it," Mike replied. "But we actually rehearsed a couple of songs from it last year and they sounded pretty good. I think the production partly ruined it. It sounded sparse and basically all the extreme stuff that characterized Carcass was gone. It felt boring."

Have the other members of Carcass heard Arch Enemy?

"Jeff has flat-out said that he thinks we suck," Amott stated. "Bill is not into that kind of music. I think the guys left the metal world as it was in the middle of the '90s and haven't thought about it since. It seems they think it's a little bizarre that I'm still doing the metal thing full-on."

Original Carcass drummer Ken Owen suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 and was hospitalized for ten months, slowly emerging from a coma.

"Ken is doing fine today, but he's not a metal drummer," Amott explained. "He's not capable of playing entire concerts with an extreme band like Carcass. I still hope that he, if we do a tour, will travel with us and play a couple of songs each night."

Earache Records will re-release the Carcass back catalogue with bonus material, including extra DVDs with brand new interviews and other footage.

"Jeff has negotiated with Earache and been able to make the label pay us a lot of old royalties," Amott revealed. "Of course money means something, but it would be great fun to go around and play songs that truly are classics in a genre. I've never played stuff like that to people before. I mean, songs that somehow have been soundtracks to people's lives. It would be fun to dig up the old corpse again."

When the lights go up, the hum of the endless road is lost to the unmistakable strains of those twin-lead guitars and the cheers of the crowd, symbiotic exchanges between band and audience that spark each and every night and make everything worthwhile. Life on the road has seduced Andy Powell and Wishbone Ash for 38 years. During the next six months, the band will tour intensely to promote two new releases: "The Power of Eternity", a studio recording featuring the current lineup; and a DVD and double-live CD soundtrack, "Wishbone Ash Live in Hamburg", recorded this year at Germany's famed club, The Fabrik.

Dubbed the "Eternity Tour", it will bring the band to many familiar stomping grounds in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. More than 100 dates are scheduled, providing plenty of opportunities to catch the latest incarnation of Wishbone Ash, which adds drummer Joe Crabtree to the established lineup of twin axemen Andy Powell and Muddy Manninen and bassist Bob Skeat.

Beginning in October, the Eternity Tour will deliver performances chock-full of current and future classics, including tracks from "The Power of Eternity", to be released on Talking Elephant Records on October 4 and worldwide through Sanctuary Records on November 13.

Wishbone Ash "Live in Hamburg" is the band's ultimate video performance to date. The DVD clocks in at more than two hours of concert performance, plus an extensive interview with founding member Andy Powell joined by Muddy Manninen. Come November 3, the annual Wishbone Ash U.K. fan convention will be held in Chesterfield, once again giving fans a unique chance to interact with the band and each other while enjoying great live music.

Formed in October 1969, Wishbone Ash was gigging by 1970. The band garnered notice in the early days for a unique blend of blues, jazz and English folk. But it was the way the guitars played melodic leads together that would become Wishbone Ash's trademark, inspiring such bands as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden. Throughout the years, many notable musicians have contributed their talents to the band, including Asia's John Wetton, Trevor Bolder from David Bowie's Spiders From Mars and Uriah Heep, and Laurie Wisefield, who would later play guitar for Joe Cocker and Tina Turner.

Wishbone Ash has released nearly 40 albums and six DVDs, performed on five continents, and received worldwide acclaim. The band regularly plays more than 150 shows a year, delivering the goods to an ever-growing number of appreciative fans of all ages.
