British black metal pioneers Venom have set "Hell" as the title of heir new album, due in May via Universal. According to a posting on the band's web site, the CD is "packed with 13 brand new malevolent tracks from the masters of black metal," including "Armageddon", "Straight To Hell", "Hand Of God", "USA For Satan", "The Power & The Glory", "Evil Perfection", "Kill The Music", and the title track, "Hell".

Venom last year parted ways with guitarist Mykvs (a.k.a. Mike Hickey; ex-Carcass, Cathedral). "Personal unavoidable commitments in the U.S. have forced Mykvs to announce that he cannot commit 100% to Venom's schedule," the band previously wrote in a statement. A new guitarist by the name of Rage has been drafted in to replace Mykvs.

With regards to the direction of the band's next album, Venom frontman Cronos previously said, "Venom will be even darker and heavier for the next release. The new song ideas that Antton and I have been composing over the last year will be exactly what the 'legions' expect from us, and will really test the abilities of the band members. There's going to be a lot of blood spilled making the next album. This band belongs to the fans and I'm going to stay true to the spirit of Venom no matter what sacrifices have to be made."

Velvet Revolver Australian Tour Will Not Be Cancelled ?

Velvet Revolver's Australian tour will go ahead as planned despite the fact that the group's frontman, Scott Weiland, has just gone back into rehab, Australian promoter Chris O'Brien told Undercover News. "We have not been told that the tour has been affected and right now I can say that it is still 100% going ahead," O'Brien said.

The Australian tour — which is set to kick off February 15 — was originally scheduled to take place in December but was postponed and the Japanese tour was cancelled because of visa problems.

In a statement released late last night (and first published by Blabbermouth.net), Velvet Revovler's management confirmed that Weiland "voluntarily entered a rehab facility" following the band's February 6 performance in Los Angeles. As a result, Thursday night's scheduled performance in San Diego was cancelled.

Weiland was arrested on November 21, 2007 when he crashed his car while driving on an L.A. highway.

He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs with a prior conviction, and with an allegation that he refused a chemical test as required by law.

Although he was supposed to perform with Velvet Revolver on January 20 at a party in Park City, Utah during the Sundance Film Festival, Weiland was a no-show for the gig. The vocalist's flight to Utah was diverted because of bad weather. The band carried on with the show, inviting audience members and singer Donovan Leitch to pitch in.

Velvet Revovler's Australian tour dates are:

Feb. 15 - Convention & Exhibition Centre - Brisbane, Australia
Feb. 16 - Enmore Theatre - Sydney, Australia
Feb. 17 - Enmore Theatre - Sydney, Australia
Feb. 19 - Festival Hall - Melbourne, Australia
Feb. 20 - Thebarton Theatre - Adelaide, Australia

Dream Theater's Progressive Nation 2008

New York progressive metal pioneers Dream Theater are set to unveil their maiden voyage of "Progressive Nation", a package tour they will headline that will also feature the talents of Opeth, 3 and Between The Buried And Me.

The tour is the brainchild of Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who explains, "I've been wanting to assemble a package tour like this for many years now. With all of the festivals and package tours that go through America, I've been talking with our manager and agent for over 10 years now about doing something that focuses on the more progressive, musician-oriented side of hard rock and metal. I decided it was time to stop talking the talk, lace up and finally walk the walk."

While Dream Theater co-headlined 2005's Gigantour alongside Megadeth, as well as embarking on previous co-headlining runs with both Queensryche and Joe Satriani, they have primarily built their 22-year career on the road playing solely to their own audience. Portnoy comments: "I've always prided myself on personally hand picking new and exciting opening acts for Dream Theater in the past. Bands such as Porcupine Tree, Symphony X, Spock's Beard, Fates Warning, Pain Of Salvation and King's X. In all of these cases, it was important for me to pick bands that I admire and respect but also ones that I know our fans will enjoy. And I think playing with DT has helped expand all of those band's fanbases as a direct result. I am hoping Progressive Nation will continue to do the same thing in offering an audience for more daring and experimental acts that otherwise may not get the mainstream exposure they so rightly deserve."

Joining the bill for this inaugural run is Sweden's legendary Opeth who have been enjoying an ever-growing and expanding audience of their own for many years now. DT's Roadrunner Records labelmates will be ready to unleash their new album come next spring and Progressive Nation should be a great launching pad for their next world tour cycle. Guitarist/Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt comments: "We're very excited about this upcoming tour with Dream Theater. It will be the first tour that we're doing in support of our upcoming record, and also somewhat of a dream come true personally as I've been a fan of theirs for a long time. It's quite intimidating to be on the bill with such amazing musicians but obviously we'll try and give them a run for their money and pull out a few nice licks of our own. I guess we'll need to practice a little bit for this....how boring! Yet, I can't wait for this tour to start and I'm sure we'll have a blast with the DT guys as well as together with the other bands on the bill!"

Also on the bill with their unique blend of pop, funk and hard rock is upstate New York's 3 who issued the following statement: "3 is very pleased to announce its participation in the Progressive Nation tour. For well over a decade Dream Theater has been the vanguard of progressive rock and we are completely psyched to flex with these heavyweights, playing much of our new record 'The End is Begun'. This package will rock and awe fans everywhere as one of the most important tours of the year. It's a progressive way of music, a progressive way of life....welcome to the Progressive Nation tour."

North Carolina's Between The Buried And Me are enjoying rave reviews and critical acclaim for their latest CD "Colors" and are looking forward to sharing the stage each night with both Dream Theater and Opeth. Vocalist/keyboardist Tommy Rogers comments: "We are very excited to be touring with two bands that have been such an integral part of our musical upbringing. It is a wonderful opportunity to have our music heard by new ears."

Dream Theater are currently in the middle of their "Chaos In Motion" world tour which has already traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America in support of their latest Roadrunner Records CD "Systematic Chaos". The world tour will continue throughout 2008 hitting Asia, Australia and South America before concluding with Progressive Nation returning to North America in April/May 2008.

Portnoy hopes that this first venture of Progressive Nation will prove to be a success that can enable himself and Dream Theater to continue the package into future years and begin a tradition that musicians and fans alike can count on for quality musicianship and artistic integrity on future tours.

Sold Out Promotion Live The Live Experience has announced that it closes down!. Read the company's statement below:

"Due to the outcome of the Deutsche Assault Festival that took place on January 12th in Athens Sold Out Promotion Live The Live Experience is sad to announce that all upcoming shows are cancelled, and the company closes down.

The company's philosophy to bring underground bands in Greece and at the same time trying to maintain a low ticket so that all fans can enjoy the shows wasn’t appreciated by fans and the people coming in the festival made the company suffer a great economic loss. Under these conditions we feel that continuing in such a manner would be pointless and non viable.

We are sorry it had to come to this but numbers don’t lie. We would like to apologize to the bands that we have already booked and will keep supporting their work in whatever they do and would like to thank all the fans that attended our shows."

CANCELLED SHOWS

Firewind New Album Details

Friewind will release its successor to 2006’s "Allegiance" album on March 24th, 2008. Guitarist Gus G. checks in with details on the programmatically entitled "The Premonition":

"'The Premonition' is a strong title and our drummer Mark came up with the idea. A premonition means feeling something is about to happen. We've worked hard the past two years and we just have a premonition that 2008 is going to be a very fun and exciting year for us as we plan to visit again many places and countries and hope to play for our fans as well as make new ones!

Of course, you can interpret the album title in any way you want. Some people might read our lyrics and see that at times they're about the course of mankind and the so-called 'end of days'. So maybe this could be taken also as a warning or omen, because it's definitely something that has been on our minds lately.

I feel that the new Firewind album is yet another step up in our career – musically speaking. Once again we aimed for a highly variable effort as I really don't like those albums where you've listened to the first song and it’s like you heard them all! This doesn't happen on a Firewind album and certainly not on the new one!

Regarding touring, we'll start off in Europe right after the album's release and we'll spend about five weeks on the road with Kamelot (we recently toured Japan with them and it was just fantastic!). We plan to return to the US right after that, but no dates are confirmed yet. Of course, a Japan and Pan-Asian tour is being planned currently as well as several appearances at summer festivals.

Gus G."
