Glen Drover Explains Departure From Megadeth

Guitarist Glen Drover has made an official statement about his leaving Megadeth:

"I am aware of the rumors that I left Megadeth to focus on family life. My family life has always been my priority.

In the end, I was unhappy with the situation, which magnified me wanting to spend more time with my family and realizing that it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter in my musical career. First, I want to spend some good quality time here at home with my family for a little bit before getting into anything serious.

Obviously, I have not spent the last several years of my life working hard to stop now.

That would be insane, to put it mildly. This is what I do, and I am excited about what the future in music has in store for me.

I would like to thank Dave (Mustaine) for giving me a great opportunity to be a part of Megadeth for the past 3 + years. To be a part of this band with my brother Shawn and tour the world, was awesome to say the least!

I have a lot of great memories and met a ton of great people along the way, both fans and people in the industry. I am also very proud to have been a part of bringing Megadeth back to the forefront and firmly putting the band back on the map!

Last but not least, I would like to thank all of the fans, the Megadeth road crew and all of my endorsements, as well as everyone who has supported me in making my time with Megadeth a very memorable experience!

Glen Drover."

To whet the fans' appetites, Roadrunner Records is offering a peek at the video's main characters at this location (that's Leo on the left and Alice on the right).

After recently celebrating the band's 20-year anniversary, Dream Theater's returns with its first-ever best-of collection. Priest And Heaven & Hell Join Forces

Heaven And Hell — the band featuring Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler, singer Ronnie James Dio, and drummer Vinny Appice — and Judas Priest are rumored to joining forces for a summer tour. It should be noted, however, that this information has not yet been corrobated by an official source and should be considered a rumor only at this point.

Artisan News Service recently posted a short video interview with Vinny Appice in which he confirmed that the songwriting sessions for the new album from Heaven And Hell will begin in April. Watch the footage in three parts at this location.

"We're doing another Heaven And Hell, we're going to do a CD album, so we're going to start writing in April-May and I also have a little thing going on with my original band Derringer, the first band I played with in 1976," he said. "We're doing a little reunion tour. We got all these great offers and we thought we'd do it. So, it'll be a busy year."

Vinny even went on to say that the initial songwriting with Heaven And Hell is going smooth as well.

"It was cool," he said. "Actually it's been over a year now. I went over there, to England in November and we got together and did three songs and it was great. After like five minutes it was like nothing, we were never apart after that, you know. It just went smooth as silk."

So what's it like playing with the legendary guitarist Tony Iommi on one side and the legendary bassist Geezer Butler on the other side?

"Those guys are, like, I mean it doesn't get much heavier than playing with Tony and Geezer," he said. "Tony on this side and Geezer on this side, it's just a wall of sound. And then you got Dio, who manages to sing over all that, it's just totally incredible. I'm in heaven...and hell."

Heaven And Hell played the final show of its U.S. tour with Alice Cooper and Queensryche on October 6, 2007 at the Verizon Wireless in Irvine, California. Before the encore, Indie 103.1's Full Metal Jackie presented the band with gold plaques on stage to honor U.S. sales in excess of 25,000 copies of the group's "Live at Radio City Music Hall" DVD. Vocalist Ronnie James Dio thanked the fans for their support, then dedicated the encore song ("Neon Knights") to veteran KNAC DJ Tawn Mastrey, who died in early October of liver failure brought on by hepatitis C.

Tribe 11 - Six Degrees of Desperation (2006)

I was waiting for two months till I got my hands on this cd thanks to the crappy Greek mail companies but in the end this was the best Christmas gift I got this year. Tribe 11 is from Toronto and exploded in the scene in 2006 with their debut album “Six Degrees of Desperation”. Their music is mixture of indie and modern rock and indie.

Although the band says that are influenced from bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Queens of the Stone Age and Jane’s Addiction the succeeded in producing a unique album that sifts from the rest of the scene.

Musically the album is exceptional. Most bands need a lifetime to write songs like Jonah’s Butterfly, Flying Spiders, Breakwater and Bulldozer but Tribe 11 simply did it with their debut Six Degrees of Desperation. The strong part of the group is, probably, the voice and lyrics of Steven Webster but the rest of the band do an amazing job too. Although the songs sound simple at first, each time you discover the little tricks that are hidden in the background of every song. The effects of the keys are the salt while the rhythm parts and the guitars are the pepper.

Even if the there are some week songs like Sunny Boy you can’t say that this album has any fillers. The Verge of My Barely Letting Go, Serpentine and Epitaph.. are not heavy at all but still their atmosphere is great while Hillbilly@thehelm and No Answer will make your head spin.

The album produced by Everett Ravestain and he is also responsible for some effects. The sound is pretty crystal clear although some effects are lost in the background.

I think Six Degrees Of Desperation is one of the best work I listened to this year. To the advantages add the origami lyrics !!!!

Rating: 93/100

The Band:

Vocals: Steven Webster
Bass: Tom Lewis
Drums: Gary Craig
Guitars: Mike Hall
Keyboards: Gary Breit

Tracklist

1. Jonah’s Butterfly
2. Flying Spiders

4. Bulldozer
5. The Verge Of My Barely Letting Go
6. Sunny Boy
7. Serpentine

Metallica, Machine Head To Headline Rock In Rio Lisboa

Metallica and Machine Head have been confirmed for the Rock In Rio Lisboa festival, set to take place May 30-31 and June 6-8 in Lisbon, Portugal. Both bands will perform on June 5, with Metallica headlining the day-long event. More acts will be announced soon.

Upcoming Metallica shows:

May 28 - Chorzow, Poland - Slaski Stadium
May 30 - Landgraaf, Netherlands - Pinkpop
Jun. 03 - Prague, Czech Republic - Slavia Stadium
Jun. 05 - Lisbon, Portugal - Rock In Rio Lisboa
Jun. 07 - Nürburgring, Germany - Rock Am Ring
Jun. 08 - Nürnberg, Germany - Rock Im Park

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has spoken with Revolver magazine about the band's ninth studio album, which is expected out later this year and will be its first all-new effort since 2003's "St. Anger". Ulrich told the magazine that the group's new material "is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds," adding, "There's a lot of light and shade in these songs. There's heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there's some slowdowns and musical interludes." Ulrich also said that the album has more in common with some of the group's '80s releases than more recent offerings like "St. Anger" and "Load".

Ulrich wouldn't agree that the yet-to-be-titled disc is a full-blown return to the past, saying, "I hate to be that specific, because six months from now people are gonna go, 'What the fuck? Lars lied to us!' But it feels that way to me."

The drummer also revealed that producer Rick Rubin, working with the band for the first time, wanted Metallica to use classic efforts like "Ride the Lightning" and "Master of Puppets" as "reference points" for its new songs.

There's no word yet on an exact release date for the new Metallica CD, although a summer release is likely.

Epica Singer Infected With MRSA; Band Cancels Shows

Singer Simone Simons of the Dutch symphonic metallers Epica has issued the following update:

"Since a couple of months I have been struggling with infections and had surgery many times. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. After a lot of tests at the hospital they found out that I am infected with MRSA, also known as the hospital bacteria. The treatment of this bacteria comes with a strict hygienic schedule which I have to work through every day. Because of this I will not be able to go on long trips, let alone living in a tour bus. Therefore we are forced to cancel most of our shows in February. The shows on the 22nd and 23rd in Lille and Vosselaar we will still do since they are independent shows and very close by. We cannot plan too far ahead since I first have to get rid of the infection and that will take some time. How long it will take we cannot tell at the moment.

"We are very sorry that we cannot do these shows. We were all looking forward to this tour and to meet you guys. What I have to focus on now is getting well, so that
we will be on the road again as soon as possible. Please check out our site every once in a while for more information on this matter."

According to WebMD, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), like all staph bacteria, can be spread from one person to another through casual contact or through contaminated objects. It is commonly spread from the hands of someone who has MRSA. This could be anyone in a health care setting or in the community. MRSA is usually not spread through the air like the common cold or flu virus, unless a person has MRSA pneumonia and is coughing.

Cavalera Conspirancy is the new project featuring Sepultura founding members Max (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums) alongside vocalist Joe Duplantier (bass) of the French progressive death metallers Gojira and Soulfly guitarist Marc Rizzo. Entitled "Inflikted", the CD will be released in North America on March 25, 2008 via Roadrunner Records (one day earlier internationally). Rex Brown (Pantera, Down) makes a cameo bass appearance on one track. Another song is a collaboration between Max, Joe and Richie Cavalera (Incite) on vocals.

This long-anticipated reunion between the Cavalera brothers is something fans across the globe have been waiting for since Sepultura's last gig at Brixton Academy in December 1996. Hailing from Belo Horizonte in central Brazil, Sepultura gained a legendary reputation as the one of the most highly regarded and successful death/thrash metal bands of all time, with two gold albums under their belts both in the UK and the USA — "Chaos A.D." (1994) and "Roots" (1996).

"When Igor and I met at the 10th annual D-Low Memorial Show [in 2006] and got the instruments in our hands, it was like we had never been separated. The metal was flowing in our veins," Max previously said. "It was the same in the studio."

Recording took place this past July at Undercity Studios in Los Angeles, with rising production star Logan Mader (ex-Machine Head/Soulfy guitarist). A b-side cover of the Possessed death/thrash classic "The Exorcist" was also recorded.

"Inflikted" final track listing:

01. Inflikted
02. Sanctuary
03. Terrorize (formerly "Holy Poison")
04. Black Ark
05. Ultra-Violent
06. Hex
07. The Doom Of All Fires
08. Bloodbrawl
09. Nevertrust
10. Hearts Of Darkness
11. Must Kill

The debut single from the album will be "Sanctuary" and it will go for radio adds on March 3.

Cavalera Conspiracy is currently in Paris, France filming promotional material for the debut album. The band will be in Paris for the video filming and photo session until January 15. Artwork for the album will also be finalized during this meeting of the band.

Below are the bands statements about each song.

> 01. Tapporauta (Killing iron)
(Finnish eastern front has always been a battlefield. People who lived there has always dealed with the consequences of war. Iron was forged and also used in the bloody fields. However, violence always increases more violence and much of sorrow, grief and distress. In war everybody suffers. Even the ones who haven't done anything bad to anybody. It has marked the whole Finnish people to become what they are.)

> 05. Shall We Take A Turn?

> 06. Paljon On Koskessa Kiviä (The rapid has many rocks)
Log floating was once one of the most important things in Finnish culture. Finnish logger called "jätkä" was seen in old Finnish movies as a same kind of hero as cowboy is seen in westerns. This is a tale of logger fighting with very hard rapid to cross by.

> 07. Ali Jäisten Vetten (Under the icy waters)
(In Finno-Ugric beliefs is known the idea of underwater world of the dead people. There life goes on mostly the same way as in the land of the living. But once your dead, the isn't possible to restore. The human hate has vanished and the passion has gone as well. )

> 08. Gods On Fire
(The song about worry of the nature and mother earth)

> 09. Kipakka (Japan bonus track)
(means like Tokyo night. Hot, nice, high tempo and is over before you can realize)

> 10. Kantaiso (Ancestor)
Khanty people, who speaks the Finno-Ugric language, beliefs that bear - the son of primeval god - was given birth to the whole human race. That's why bear is honoured and kept as a holy animal. Khanty people has preserved their bear rites even into our days in the deep forests behind the Ural mountains, in Western Siberia.

> 11. Kipumylly (Mill of Pain)
In Finnish mythology Kiputyttö (Pain Maiden) creates the pain by grinding the pain of mill in the painstone. Painstone lies on pain hill or pain mountain. Sometimes there's a pain rapid nearby too. In some spells Kiputyttö also cries.

> 12. Suden Joiku (Yoik of the wolf)
Animal stories are the most fine and beautiful folklore. This story comes from the northern hills, from the border of tundra and taiga.

> 13. Runamoine
He who reaches the fir, falls to the juniper. This story has influences from the folk story of Nenets people, who speak the language related to Finnish. The best shaman in the world gets tired of earthly sufferings and leashes his sledge towards the skies. However, the sledge brokes down and shaman never reaches the Upper world.

> 14. Syntykoski Syömmehessäin (Rapid of Birth From My Heart)
Human has always been interested from where are the different things come from. It has been suggested explanations, which have given a birth to stories. Stories have changed to folklore and folklore has restored much the wisdom, which deals about life and way to see the world. It comes straight from the rapid of birth from our hearts, when the story is told forward. Thus have been born the myths and legends - and Finnish runo-singing.

> 15. Korven Kuningas (King of the woods)

digi bonus: *Nuolet nomalan (Rabbit arrows)
The Finnish word "jänis" (rabbit) is from unknown source. It may be the track from the language spoken in Finland before Finno-Ugric speaking peoples arrived here. The original Finno-Ugric root-word is reconstructed in the form "*njomala". North-Sámi word "njoammil" and Hungarian word "nyúl", both meaning the rabbit, are of this origin for example. If the root-word would have preserved in Finnish as well, it would be "nomala". In this song the hunter hunts the rabbit-god himself and it may be a too big risk to take.

Dark Fortress strikes back with its new full-length album "Eidolon" which marks the band’s second effort on Century Media Records.

"Eidolon" is the band’s first effort with new vocalist Morean who is also responsible for the intricate lyrical concept. In its nine chapters the album describes the initiation, dehumanization and unearthly rebirth of a transcending soul by mirror magic and astral projection. An "Eidolon" is a Greek concept of an astral double of a living being or a "mirror". The concept describes a magic mirror ritual as while a person is in a trance, the surface of the mirror is used as a gate to enter a new dimension. Three songs each form the album’s three chapters:

Dark Fortress "Eidolon" track-listing (50:17):

The first three songs describe the calling of beings from the other dimension, seen from three different angles:

1. The Silver Gate (6:50)
2. Cohorror (5:37)
3. Baphomet (6:24)

The second part is the initiation, when the astral soul is dehumanized and torn away from his earthly ties.

4. The Unflesh (5:08)
5. Analepsy (6:01)
6. Edge of Night (3:57)

The third part is the rebirth "on the other side of the mirror".

7. No Longer Human (5:36)
8. Catacrusis (4:34)
9. Antiversum (7:22)

Release Dates:
