Fires of Babylon is a newly formed band cranking out classic 1980s-style shredding U.S. heavy metal. The group features in its ranks the highly skilled and lauded lineup of guitarist Lou St. Paul (Winters Bane), vocalist Rob Rock, bassist Kelly Conlon (ex-Death, Monstrosity) and drummer Robert Falzano (Shatter Messiah, ex-Annihilator).

Very impressed by Lou's playing on Winters Bane's "Redivivus" album, the owner of European label Metal Heaven Records asked St. Paul to write the material and put together a band to record a classic, shredding '80s metal album — and Fires of Babylon is the result.

Fires of Babylon
debut album, "Devilution", will feature 10 crushing, fist-in-the-air metal anthems, and will be released in early 2008 on Metal Heaven Records.

Bruce Dickinson's Movie Goes Into Production

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson's film about occult legend Aleister Crowley (infamous as "the wickedest man in the world") has finally gone into production, according to Fangoria. Produced by London-based Focus Films, the movie, entitled "Chemical Wedding", stars Simon Callow — of "Amadeus", "Shakespeare in Love" and, appropriately, "The Phantom of the Opera" — as a Cambridge professor who becomes a reincarnation of Aleister Crowley (a role that, at various points, Malcolm McDowell and Roger Daltrey were said to be attached to); John Shrapnel, Kal Weber, Terence Bayler and Geoff Breton also star.

Crowley, who lived between 1875 and 1947, has been Bruce Dickinson's idol for many years. The Iron Maiden song "Revelations" is said to refer to Crowley's classic claim that he was the "anti-christ 666" reincarnated. In other words, the Devil himself.

Although Bruce isn't planning a successor to his 2005 solo album "Tyranny of Souls" in the break before Maiden's next summer tour, he doesn't rule out getting together with producer/guitarist Roy Z to work on some new music for the soundtrack.

Backed by the impetus of their successful "Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy" world tour which saw the band perform 93 shows in 34 countries around the globe — impressively documented on the double live DVD "Live On 3 Continents" — German metallers Helloween are about to release their twelfth studio album, "Gambling With The Devil". The new offering is scheduled to arrive at the stores on October 23, 2007 (USA), October 26, 2007 (Germany) and October 29, 2007 (rest of Europe) and will see the five musicians — Andi Deris (vocals), Michael Weikath (guitar), Sascha Gerstner (guitar), Markus Großkopf (bass) and Dani Löble (drums) — unleash their full zest and experience. "Some of the numbers were written during the tour. The fans' positive reactions and the great responses to 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy' really inspired us. We were rearing to go," Andi Deris describes the extremely positive atmosphere among the band members, adding: "It's been years since I had so much fun composing."

Under the direction of producer Charlie Bauerfeind, Helloween recorded a total of 16 songs at the Mi Sueno studios in Tenerife. Except for two or three tracks, these new compositions are all included on "Gambling With The Devil", among them the impressive intro, featuring "Crack The Riddle", with Biff Byford (Saxon) as a guest speaker. The focal point of this diverse album is a three-part epos consisting of the chapters "The Bells Of The Seven Hells", "Falling To Pieces" and "I.M.E.", which represent the ambiguous album title that thematically covers all the songs. "At the end of the day, life is a gamble with the devil," Deris explains. The first single release (download only) will be "As Long As I Fall", supported by a video clip which will be shot in Munich at the end of August. The cover artwork was designed by Martin Häusler ("Keeper Of The Seven Keys – The Legacy" and "Live On 3 Continents") again, and the booklet will include a scratch card puzzle, giving fans a chance to win a lucrative prize: a concert ticket for a show during the band's upcoming tour of South America, including flight and accommodation. The album will also be released as a limited-edition digipak in a slipcase with a bonus disc, including two unreleased songs, a video and lots of enhanced material.

The "Hellish Rock" tour of Europe is scheduled to start in mid-November 2007, supported by top act Gamma Ray. Apart from a few festival appearances, this will be the first joint tour by Helloween and Gamma Ray. So here's hoping that Gamma Ray mastermind Kai Hansen, a former Helloween member himself, will join his ex-colleagues in a jam session featuring Helloween classics.

Stones To Quit Touring ?

The Rolling Stones will reportedly quit touring for good after playing London's O2 Arena this Sunday after 45 years in the music business.

The veteran rockers are believed to have declared that their current A Bigger Bang Tour will be their last because frontman Sir Mick Jagger, 64, and guitarist Keith Richards, 63, will be too old to do another.

A source said: "We've been told this will be the last tour. Embarking on a Stones world tour takes years to plan. Mick and Keith would be in their late 60s by the time they would be ready to rock once more."

Mick, Keith, drummer Charlie Watts, 66, and guitarist Ronnie Wood, 60, end their massive two-year tour this week with three dates at the new O2 Arena, with their final performance on Sunday.

The band was formed in 1962 and has been touring regularly ever since.

The group have sold more than 200 million albums worldwide over the last five decades and played thousands of sold-out shows.

The Stones have been receiving rave reviews for the latest leg of their tour - and wowed 60,000 at Ireland's Slane Castle on Saturday.

The band started in London in 1962 with original leader Brian Jones, but he was usurped by the songwriting partnership of singer Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards.

Jones died in 1969, shortly after being fired from the band and was replaced by 20-year-old Mick Taylor.

The band has released 55 albums and have had 37 top-10 singles. They have sold over 300 million albums worldwide. Their latest album, 'A Bigger Bang', was released in 2005 and their world tour is still continuing.

Axl Rose To Sing For Sebastian Bach

Guns N' Roses leader Axl Rose has issued the following statement:

"Bas asked me to sing on his new record, 'Angel Down', and I agreed and came down to his studio where he played me the tracks. I really liked the title/opening track, 'Angel Down', but I didn't feel that it would be right to be on that one, although, of course, it would've been cool because it's a great rip-your-head-off track!

Since this session was rather a more fun atmosphere, the tracks I sang on kind of showed themselves and were also done out of curiosity on the part of Bas, myself, and his producer, Roy Z, just to see if my involvement brought something that worked for the tracks.

Bas really wanted me on 'Bitchslap', and I got to try my own ideas on it. We're not saying much about the second track, as it may be taken a bit further, and when Bas played the third track, 'Stuck Inside', he suggested a kind of call-and-answer part. They allowed me the freedom to write my own words and melodies, and although it's only a couple of lines, it really felt great. The song has such a mean riff, and Bas' guys were so supportive in so many ways on tour and fun to hang with, that it was great to be a part of something of theirs and I think it really came out strong.

For me, the three songs together are a good package. They are all different, with different approaches and styles from each other and from material I have on the upcoming Guns N’ Roses record. For me, the timing couldn’t be better and I’m quite surprised to be on one song, let alone three!!!

Bas really knew where he saw my involvement on his album and had different options in mind. He knew what seemed obvious, what would be fun, what would work for his album and what he felt I would like. I really liked the energy of the tracks and since I'm rarely asked to do anything I'd actually enjoy or be glad to be a part of, I'm more than grateful for the opportunity and hope the fans get a kick out of it as well."

Green Carnation Split Up

By Elric on 11:14 AM

Filed Under:

Tchort announce that the current line up of Green Carnation has split up.

"Although releasing the amazing concert DVD 'A night under the Dam' earlier this year, the band felt drained of energy after the miserable organized USA tour put together by The End Records and their booking agent. The End Records being one of the main supporters of the band the last years, bringing hope back to Green Carnation's view on the music business, left the band with broken promises, huge debts, theft of license money and a poor organized tour draining the band for energy. The band doesn’t blame The End Records for all of its problems, but they made a bad situation worse by first giving the tour a green light when the conditions for the tour were doomed from the beginning and then later withdraw license money, merchandise money, merchandise and not paying the band or its sound engineer, leaving the band in debts. All of which could have been avoided by cancelling the tour before it started. The End Records lost money on the tour as well, so why it wasn’t cancelled when the contracts for the tour were offered to the label, is a unanswered question.

The deal for the tour was that Green Carnation would cover the flights to and from the USA, while the rest of the tour would be covered by The End Records and tour income. But in the end, the band covered the flights, their own fee, the fee of the sound engineer, some of the gas and hotel expenses during the tour, and paid for CD's that were sold during the tour. On top of that The End Records - withdraw the license money from the last album, took all the merch money and the CD's to cover their own losses. What The End Records had to gain from sending the band across the world, driving across the continent of America twice, just to come to a town where the local promoter haven’t been seen around for the last 4 months, or arrive at clubs that don’t even know you are coming, to clubs where the local promoter put up another show because the booking agent never replied to their booking confirmation so instead they went ahead and booked other tours on the same date.

In the end, it made the band members avoid live situations, tours and business partners. The band members felt they had little or nothing to give anymore, and I don’t blame them. I saw where we were heading and it wasn’t where we wanted to be at, so instead of ending up with a mediocre album, we decided to call it the quits after the most spectacular release we have produced so far; 'A Night Under the Dam' on DVD."

Tchort will continue writing music under the name Green Carnation, but probably will never play live again with the band.

The Pulse of Radio (formerly Launch Radio Networks) reports: Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has released a video as his alter ego The Nightwatchman for a song called "Alone Without You", according to a press release. Morello composed the tune after seeing an early cut of filmmaker Michael Moore's latest documentary, "Sicko", and let Moore use the song over the film's closing credits. The video debuted at MichaelMoore.com last week and the tune itself has been added as a bonus track to Morello's debut album as The Nightwatchman, "One Man Revolution".

Morello said about the song, "'Alone Without You' is a testament to the struggle and loss faced by millions of Americans who are cast aside by a healthcare system that puts profit before people and families."

Morello and Moore recently interviewed each other as part of MySpace's "Artist On Artist" series.

Moore directed the videos for Rage Against The Machine "Sleep Now In The Fire" and "Testify", while The Nightwatchman opened for Moore on a 2004 speaking tour.

Morello has been alternating between solo dates as The Nightwatchman and shows with the reunited Rage Against The Machine. The band next plays on Friday (August 24) in East Troy, Wisconsin.

The German vocalist Henning Basse (Metalium) will step in from now on and complete all the 2007 tourdates with us. Henning has helped us already in the past on some shows on our last European tour with Angra. He really kicks ass on stage and is a great singer and performer, as well as a great guy. We're grateful to have him on board once again and you’ll be surprised by how hard this guy rocks!

All our upcoming shows will go on as scheduled and announced - no Firewind shows will be cancelled! See you on the road soon!

System Of A Down Side-Project

System of A Down's Daron Malakian (guitars, vocals, songwriter) and John Dolmayan (drums) have joined forces to form a new band, Scars On Broadway.

"Accompanied by some great musicians, we are preparing to go into the studio really soon to record our debut album," Malakian writes on the group's MySpace page. "John and I are really excited about this new project and can't wait to get on stage and perform live for you guys."

Malakian co-produced (with Rick Rubin) System of A Down's multi-platinum albums "Toxicity" (2001) and the dual-disc "Mezmerize/Hypnotize" (2005), all three of which hit the No. 1 spot on The Billboard 200 chart.

System of A Down has been on hiatus since last year, with its members working on various side projects. This has naturally led to rumors that the band was breaking up permanently. But bassist Shavo Odadjian told The Pulse of Radio that System of A Down is far from over. " is alive and well. We're just not working together right now. We kind of like split up at first, but you know, we're brothers, man, we'll take bullets for each other. So it's like, you kind of miss each other after a while and you, one guy makes the first move, then another starts making phone calls....this is a juggernaut, man. SystemSystem of A Down is my lifeline. It'll never go away. We could not make a record for 10 years — that's not gonna happen, but I'm just saying we could — and we'll come back strong."

Odadjian is launching a new online initiative called urSession.com (pronounced "your session"), a web-based music community that also doubles as a record company. The site is scheduled to go live within a few weeks.

The bassist is continuing his career as a video director and working on a side project with the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA that's called Achozen.

System of A Down vocalist Serj Tankian will release his first solo CD, titled "Elect the Dead", on October 23.

Sonata Arctica Announced New Guitarist

Sonata Artctica have issued the following update concerning the replacement of their guitarist:

"As many already know, our guitarist Jani Liimatainen has been absent from the line-up this spring and summer.
The reason was his messing around with his compulsory military/civil/prison duty, or rather,
complete failure to take care of it.

This matter, and everything that goes with it, caused a split between Jani and the other band members.
This split was impossible to mend without Jani's help and co-operation.

Therefore we would like to make known the following:
During fall of '06 and spring of '07, Jani's personal matters and actions drove us to a situation
where we had no option but to ask Jani to leave the band.

Jani was notified of this in May, and the separation was amicable. We wanted to give Jani the
chance to get his life together before making this public, which is why we didn't make this
announcement earlier. We wish Jani well on his chosen path.

"Show must go on", so, facing the facts, we hereby humbly announce that Elias Viljanen
is from this day forward a full and official member of Sonata Artctica.

Throughout this summer, on many occasions, Elias has shown himself to be able to fill
the big boots Jani left behind.

We hope our friends and our fans understand that this was the only choice left for us to make so
that our band could continue. Sonata Artctica has always been, and always will be, more than the
sum of its parts. The band has become for us a way of life, a lifeline that simply can not be cut off.

A long "Unia" -tour lies in front of us.
We extend Elias a warm welcome to the Sonata family, and we hope the fans will, too.
Sonata Artctica is whole again.

See you on the road!

Best regards,
Tony, Tommy, Marko, and Henrik"

Jordan Rudess New Solo Album

The 12th of September will be the release date for the new solo album from Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess, entitled "The Road Home". Having been influenced by classic progressive acts such as Genesis, Yes and Gentle Giant, Rudess revisits some of the great songs from those bands with his own special Jordan Rudess touch.

Rudess says:

"I felt recording songs that were meaningful to me then – and now -- would be fun and challenging at the same time. Prog changed my life, for sure, and took me off the purely classical path and firmly committed me to this other road of discovery.

I wanted to play the right pieces and play the parts that I felt were really important to the composition. I also added my own sections that aren’t there at all in the original songs. So there is a lot of originality even within these new arrangements."

A great group of guests will contribute in the cd, such as Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Beard), Kip Winger (Winger), Rod Morgenstein (Winger), Ed Wynne (Ozric Tentacles), Bumblefoot (Guns N' Roses), Marco Sfogli (James Labrie), Ricky Garcia (Lafee) and several others.

"The Road Home" track listing:

01. Dance On a Volcano
02. Sound Chaser
03. Just The Same
04. JR Piano Medley
05. Piece of The Pi
06. Tarkus

Rage - New Album Title Revealed

Rage has issued the following update revealing the title of their forthcoming album:

"At the moment, Peavy, Victor and Andre are working with high pressure at their new album, with the working title "Carved in Stone".

"Carved in Stone" is also the title of a new song, a super hymn, which could open the live shows in future. More titles are (under reserve): Open My Grave (very heavy & dark), One Step Ahead, Long Hard Road and Without You. There are much more songs, we'll tell you more about, soon.

The music is very catchy, and compared with the last output, straight-lined. Due to Andres way of playing the drums, a newer wind came into. Most of the lyrics deal with critically notes to anxiously, socially developments."

Swedish metalers Arch Enemy are proud to present you the artwork of their upcoming, highly anticipated new masterpiece "Rise Of The Tyrant", which will be unleashed upon the metal world on September 24th, 2007.

Arch Enemy mastermind Michael Amott (guitars) comments on the artwork created by Niklas Sundin / Cabin Fever Media as follows:

"This time around I turned to Niklas Sundin to bring the "Rise Of The Tyrant" imagery to life, and what a splendid job he did! !I am always amazed by this man’s imagination and talent, and his seemingly never-ending patience in dealing with me. We worked closely on the project from the beginning and what we ended up with is something somewhat different to what we have done in the past: Less colours, quite clandestine and very sinister! Wonderful! The track "Rise Of The Tyrant" is musically the most extreme song we recorded and Angela’s lyrics fitted perfectly the mood of the music so we decided this had to be the name of the album. The cover reflects the atmosphere of total megalomania inspired by that song. The booklet artwork is really lending itself towards intense merchandise and stage production ideas, all of which will be revealed soon. But for now, stare into the all-seeing eye of the rising tyrant!

Furthermore the band can already announce details of their upcoming live activities. Prior to crushing Europe in Nov./Dec. 2007 on the "Black Crusade" tour with Machine Head, Trivium, Dragonforce and Shadows Fall, Arch Enemy will head out for "The Black Tyranny" US co-headliner tour with Machine Head, visit Australia with Machine Head and Trivium, as well as perform an exclusive show at London’s club The Barfly on August 17th, so get your necks prepared for some of the heaviest live shows in 2007!

Biomechanical Out Of Members

It's unbelieavable! Biomechanical may have found a new drummer but mainman John K. must now look for new band members as Jamie Hunt, Chris Webb and Jon Collins have decided to leave the band!!

According to John K.'s statement:

"I didn't want this situation to come to this

"There is a long history of unpleasant feelings but I never thought that these guys would go so low and attack me publicly.

I can say alot of things that could hurt their reputation but I am not going to.

I feel though that I have to explain my self to all the fans who have embraced Biomechanical.

Right from the beginning when I picked each musician for Biomechanical I explained my self that this was my baby. They all knew what the score was. However I was always open to suggestions and input.

I have to make clear now that I have written, arranged recorded and co-produced all the music for Biomech. Artistic direction, lyrical content direction wise, internet content, guitar solo direction, record label relationships were all done by me. I never asked for any recognition for all this. All I asked was for them to at least respect some decisions that I had to make as a band leader

I told the guys the band was going to become a project as I was ferociously attacked over my decision to not do the Sikth gigs due to the fact that the work load for the new album "Cannibalised" was way too heavy for me and I was clearly going to get ill.

It was a simple decision. Album or four Gigs.

I was continuously attacked and cornered to commit into something I couldn't do and on top of this I was told that they outvoted me to go and perform without a singer (which as far as I am concerned it's highly unprofessional unless there is a second singer in the band or enough instrumentals to cover a set) I had no other choice than to tell them this will now be a project on my terms so that I wouldn’t have to be subjected to any other attacks again.

I have to thank the guys for leaving the band as they made some decisions a lot easier for me and for the record I never asked anybody to be an unpaid session musician

Biomechanical will not be a project as I am now looking for band members

I am pleased to say I have a drummer Jonno Lodge and I am now looking for the rest of the guys to get Biomech on the road after the album will be released.

Again really sorry the other members of the band stooped so low but believe it or not I still wish them good luck

John".

Nanowar - Other Bands Play Nanowar Gay (2006)

As I was surfing at the internet I came across this diamond. Nanowar (now called Nanowar of Steel) started back in 2003 and they are playing epic/power metal with funny lyrics and as their named suggest they are a parody of Manowar. Moreover as reported in their website Nanowar is the only Epic-True-Power Metal band who actually killed a dragon!

After two demos in 2003, “True Metal Of The World” and “Triumph Of True Metal Of Steel” the time was right for their first full album “Other Bands Play Nanowar Gay!”. The artwork as well as the music if a spoof of Manowar’s Fighting The World”. The album contains 14 songs of true epic power metal. Songs like “Tricycles Of Steel” and “Metal-la-la-la-la” or “Burger-King” are a classic sample of their work and their musci intentions. Moreover “The Power of the Power of the Power (of the Great Sword)" will melt your ears with 8 seconds (!) of true metal! But where the band truly shines is in “Number of the Bitch” where Maiden’s music meets the adult entertainment.

To be honest Nanowar music is decent and filled with Manowar’s riffs. Lyrics on the other hands are just funny. Actually, Nanowar are to epic metal what Tenacious D are to rock. In the end I really enjoyed “Other Bands Play Nanowar Gay!”.

Beware…Nanowar are marching.

Michael Schenker UK Tour Canceled

By Elric on 9:25 AM

According to a posting on the Michael Schenker News and Tour Information web site, it appears as if the remainder of Michael Schenker Group's U.K. has been cancelled. Schenker and his band were scheduled to perform last night (Friday, August 3) in Stourbridge, U.K. but ended up calling off the gig after only a handful of songs. A short review of last night's concert, as posted on the Michael Schenker News and Tour Information web site, follows:

"Well, it looks like the tour is over and that Michael will be in a German hospital tomorrow. The show did indeed start with smiles, broad ones too, but the joy at having cranked up the engine successfully gave way to the disappointment of realising that it wasn't running at all well. The riffing wasn't too bad but the solos were just awful. I think everybody connected with the tour expected this. As the intro tape played I watched Tyson standing with his dad's 'V' on his thigh and wondered what was going through his head and then saw another crew member light a cigarette behind the amps. It was how things are portrayed in films when beleaguered troops await the inevitable charge of a superior enemy.

"For me, the Schenker smiles at the start were the clue that this was a guy who wanted to play but couldn't get the brain and fingers to co-ordinate, almost like a recovering stroke victim concentrating hard to do something that would normally be so simple. Sadly many of the audience didn't see this, and started to shout abuse and throw stuff, most noticeably from 'Lights Out' onward, as I think that this was the point when people could really tell how bad things were. Yet the target of their venom, awful or not, might as well have been a frail, elderly man, because apart from his face Schenker's physical appearance and demeanour added 30 years to his real age.

"I was ashamed at the lack of humanity some people showed.

"Humanity did come calling in the end though. Right after 'Only You Can Rock Me', Michael lifted his guitar off his lap and stood up (he'd played all but the first song sat on a corner of the small drum riser). There was a brief huddle followed by 'thank you, good night' from the band. And that was it. The suffering was, we are led to believe, over, or at least the first step towards ending it had been taken. Probably this isn't a good time to comment on the band (nor on Rattlesnake Remedy who were fantastic, in my opinion) musically, but they battled on manfully and were constantly supportive of, and encouraging to, their guitarist. That was what drew his smiles out even in the midst of this torment, knowing that these guys were still trying to pull him along even as the wheels were falling off. Chapeau fellas.

"Last thought for now — no sad song ever written jerks a tear quite like seeing Michael Schenker's face when he's failing to play his solo in 'Only You Can Rock Me'. One of the saddest things I've ever seen."

Epica's new video, "Never Enough", has been released and can be viewed below. The song comes off the Dutch symphonic metal band's new album, "The Divine Conspiracy", due in North America on August 28 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will be issued in in Europe on September 10 (September 7 in Germany).

Nuclear Blast will release a limited deluxe CD edition in Europe of "The Divine Conspiracy", featuring the bonus tracks "Higher High" and "Replica" (Fear Factory cover!!!), video clips and a "making-of" enhanced section. A gatefold vinyl edition will also be issued containing the same two bonus tracks.

According to a posting on the band's web site, "The Divine Conspiracy" "will be Epica's first full length concept album. This concept deals with the theory that, as a test, God created all kinds of different religions and released those upon humanity to see if they would be able to find the true nature of them, realizing that in all religions it is actually the same. But there's more to it; it also concludes the 'Embrace That Smothers' concept that could already be found on 'The Phantom Agony'."

"The Divine Conspiracy" was mixed by Sascha Paeth and features a session appearance by God Dethroned drummer Arien van Weesenbeek. Epica has yet to name a full-time drummer following the departure of Jeroen Simons in 2006.

Epica's June 21, 2007 concert at The Underground in Cologne (Koln), Germany was filmed as part of the WDR TV network's "Rockpalast" series. The footage will air on August 6.

As previously reported, Epica has been confirmed as the support act for Sonata Arctica on their upcoming European tour in November.

Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet has confirmed via his official web site that Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker and rock legend Alice Cooper will appear on the third installment of his Avantasia project, entitled "Lost in Space Part 1 and Part 2" (the "Scarecrow" working title has now apparently been scrapped).

Commented Tobias: "I am really proud and grateful to have Rudolf and Alice as guests on the album. I am glad Rudolf finally managed to do it as the Scorpions have been so busy promoting their new album 'Humanity – Hour 1' which I think is their best since 1987. We had to re-schedule the session once and finally we worked things out catching up backstage in Slovakia during a Scorpions/Edguy show. And what can I say about Alice Cooper? He is a unique American legend! Everybody knows him and all I can say is: I ain't worthy, I ain't worthy! The role he's sung suits him perfectly! Both Rudolf and Alice did great performances and I am truly blessed to have won them as special guests for my album!" Other guests confirmed to appear on Avantasia new CD include Sascha Paeth, Henjo Richter, Eric Singer (KISS, Alice Cooper), Miro, Michael Kiske (ex-Helloween), Jorn Lande (ex-Masterplan), Bob Catley and Amanda Somerville.

Regarding Kiske's contribution to the new Avantasia CD, Sammet said, "I love Michael's voice, he is the singer that made me want to become a singer myself twenty years ago. I am happy and proud that he is part of Avantasia again."

"Lost in Space Part 1 and Part 2" is scheduled for release on October 19.

Avantasia will perform at next year's Wacken Open Air festival, set to take place July 31 - August 2, 2008 in Wacken, Germany. Also scheduled to appear are Iron Maiden (headliners), Children Of Bodom and Kreator.

Phil Lynott's Guitar Disappears from Wax Museum

The Associated Press reports Josef Stalin, Adolf Hitler and Franklin D. Roosevelt got stripped naked, and Fred Flintstone and the Teletubbies are missing after a raid on wax figures owned by Ireland’s National Wax Museum.

But that's not all...at least 50 figures were stolen or wrecked several weeks ago, the museum reported yesterday. The wax museum, closed since 2005, has been storing its 400 figures in a warehouse while it works to reopen this fall.

Police say they suspect the warehouse was used for an all-night rave party. Also stripped were Winston Churchill, Charles de Gaulle and rebel icons from Ireland’s war of independence with Britain, including Michael Collins and Padraig Pearse. Gone are Bob the Builder, Frankenstein’s monster, Gollum from “Lord of the Rings” and Hannibal Lecter.

Guitars adorning the figures of U2’s The Edge and Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott also disappeared. Elvis and Madonna lost hair, limbs or jewelry.

The museum was razed for a hotel in 2005. Museum manager Kay Murray said she expects to announce a new location next month but said she doesn’t know where $1.4 million to fix the damage will come from. Some items - such as authentic rebel uniforms - are irreplaceable.

Brian May Hands In His PhD

Brian May handed over his thesis to Professor Paul Nandra. Queen guitarist Brian May has handed in his astronomy PhD thesis - 36 years after abandoning it to join the band.

May recently carried out observational work in Tenerife, where he studied the formation of "zodiacal dust clouds".

The subject forms the basis of a 48,000-word thesis for Imperial College, London, where 60-year-old May studied before becoming a rock star.

"It's been the longest gap year ever," May said. "It was a tough decision back then to leave my studies for music."

But the star said that at the time, his "passion for music was stronger".

"I'm so proud to be here today. Astronomy has always interested me. I used to love sitting at home and watching Sir Patrick Moore on the Sky at Night. If I fail I will fail big time - it will be a very public failure with all this press."

Brian May handed in the thesis, called Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud, to Imperial's head of astrophysics Professor Paul Nandra. The guitarist is scheduled to discuss his thesis with the examining board on 23 August, his spokesman said. The results should be known some time shortly after that date.

"If I fail I will fail big time. It will be a very public failure with all this press."

The rock star is also preparing a concert to mark the inauguration of a telescope at the Observatory of the Roque de Los Muchachos in La Palma, Tenerife, where he completed his studies last month.

May recently co-authored a book with Sir Patrick Moore
"I have no doubt that Brian May would have had a brilliant career in science had he completed his PhD in 1971," said astrophysicist Dr Garik Israelian, who worked with May in La Palma.

"Nevertheless, as a fan of Queen, I am glad that he left science temporarily," he added.

May made his first astronomical observations for his thesis at the Observatorio del Teide in Tenerife in 1971, before his rock career took off.

He recently published a book on astronomy with The Sky at Night presenter Sir Patrick Moore.
